Course Description

This course provides students the opportunity to engage in an extended artistic project of their choosing. Students will propose a semester plan of action and will meet both individually, and with the entire Directed Studio cohort for common critiques to review work at specific times during the semester. Students should have taken at least one foundation studio in the area in which they intend to work. The course requires students to work independently on their project, meeting regularly with the instructor to assess progress. These meetings will include individual assignments that may include research, video tutorials, and artistic practice. Permission of instructor.

  1. Create art works that demonstrate intentional compositional techniques based on the elements of art and principles of design.
  2. Work independently to develop abilities and skills that lead to greater proficiency in a specific area of study.
  3. Revise work in progress based on student and instructor feedback.
  4. Articulate an informed personal response to artwork through critique.
  5. Complete proposed project by creating a portfolio in the appropriate media.
