Course Description
This course develops students’ interpersonal communication skills necessary for living and working effectively with other individuals in a society with great population diversity. Topics may include communication theory, verbal and nonverbal symbols, interactive listening, resolving interpersonal conflict, developing and maintaining personal and professional relationships.

Learning Outcomes (General)
The student will be able to:
- Construct appropriate interpersonal communication messages for diverse communication contexts.
- Demonstrate confirming verbal messages in the areas of: I statements; assertive message formats; perception checking; paraphrasing; active listening; conflict management; relationship development.
- Demonstrate effective encoding and decoding of nonverbal cues during an interpersonal interaction.
- Implement strategies to reduce communication apprehension in interpersonal contexts, including face-to-face and mediated interactions
