Course Description
This course is a continuation of Dental Hygiene Practice III with supervised clinical experience and a weekly seminar. Students will apply basic and advanced theories, functions and procedures necessary for comprehensive client treatment.

Learning Outcomes (General)
The student will be able to:
- Develop a comprehensive dental hygiene treatment plan.
- Develop oral hygiene/education sessions appropriate to client needs including nutritional analysis.
- Demonstrate the use of basic and auxiliary plaque control agents.
- Perform periodontal assessment on clinic clients.
- Perform dental charting on clinic clients.
- Apply the standards of practical infection control.
- Perform a comprehensive client assessment.
- Apply the principles of periodontal instrumentation on clinic clients.
- Perform selective polishing and topical fluoride treatments on clinic clients.
- Integrate theoretical concepts with practical application skills.
- Evaluate and sharpen instruments as necessary.
- Demonstrate the use of medical/dental references when assessing client’s medical histories.
- Increase measured proficiency in comprehensive dental hygiene treatment for all categories of periodontal disease.
- Manage the treatment/dental emergencies with rational processes.
- Integrate client health history and special needs into their treatment plan.
- Evaluate and recommend clients for and pit and fissure sealants.
- Treatment plan and expose radiographs/images on clinic clients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in tooth desensitization and subgingival irrigation.
- Demonstrate proficiency in obtaining impressions, and bite registration.
- Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation to control pain during treatment.
- Fabricate and deliver custom fitted trays for tooth whitening on clinic clients when indicated.
- Demonstrate effective communication strategies that foster mutual respect and understanding among professionals from various disciplines.
- Analyze the dynamics of interprofessional teams and the importance of shared goals.
- Recognize ethical issues that may arise in interprofessional collaborations.
- Apply interprofessional collaboration principles to simulated patient cases.

Special Information (if any)
Liability Insurance is provided by RCTC. Tuition differential is used for supplies. Uniforms, safety glasses, clinic shoes, and instrument kits. Current healthcare level CPR certification is needed for course. HBV vaccine or waiver and other immunizations is needed for course. Yearly Mantoux test is required for course. Current medical insurance is required.
