Course Description
Intermediate Class Piano is a continuation of Beginning Class Piano, designed to strengthen fundamental keyboard skills while introducing students to early intermediate repertoire and techniques. Students will improve hand coordination, expand functional harmony skills, build foundational harmonization and accompaniment patterns, and increase fluency in sight-reading. Topics include major and minor scales, primary chord progressions, reading lead sheets, and performing short pieces in a variety of musical styles. Emphasis is placed on developing effective practice habits and confidence in both solo and duet performance.

Outline of Major Content Areas
- Intermediate Technique Development: coordinated hand movement, articulation, pedaling, and finger agility
- Repertoire Study and Performance: early intermediate solo pieces and selected duets/four-hand works
- Applied Theory and Functional Harmony: scales, primary chords (I, IV, V, V7), progressions, and basic harmonization/accompaniment patterns
- Reading Skills and Musicianship: sight-reading, interpreting lead sheets, rhythmic accuracy, and practice strategies

The student will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of functional harmony by playing major/minor scales, primary chords, and simple chord progressions.
- Sight-read short pieces and interpret basic lead sheets with appropriate harmonization.
- Perform collaboratively in duet or four-hand settings with rhythmic stability and ensemble coordination.
