Course Description

This course is designed to introduce the student to the game of golf. Skills for successful play that will be taught include many elements within the fundamentals of the grip, stance and swing. The class is designed to work on the fundamentals and progress with skill development, learn the rules of the game, as well as game/course management during a round of golf.

Outline of Major Content Areas

1. History and evolution of the sport of golf.
2. Basic fundamentals of stroke development that begins with the pre-shot routine and grip
3. Identification of clubs, mid-irons, long irons and woods, and their place in the game.
4. Ball Flight Rules
5. Scoring, course management and etiquette for the game of golf.
6. Rules and scoring for stroke and match play.

Learning Outcomes (General)

The student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge about the history and evolution of golf.
2. Perform basic golf skills such as driving, chipping and putting.
3. Understand the importance of and the development of a pre-shot routine.
4. Apply knowledge of ball flight rules and strategy in course management, such as club selection, lie, stance, trajectory, distance and special shots.
5. Demonstrate the ability to perform both stroke play and match play, as per competitive rules, scoring and course etiquette.
