Course Description
This course provides the foundation and professional skills required to become a sports official. Topics covered include the development of philosophy of the game, personal styles, legalities and professional ethics. The application of conflict resolution techniques while applying the rules of the game to provide fair competition and meaningful participation in events for student-athletes, coaches, spectators and officials is stressed. Other areas explored include continuing education opportunities and networking.

Special Information (if any)
This course is designed in accordance with the American Sport Educators Program, developed in conjunction with the National Federation of High Schools and Referee Enterprises. This course utilizes the national certifying ASEP exam. Successful completion of this national standard exam allows the individual to be recognized nationally for meeting the initial criteria for officiating in any state. The individual is then included on the ASEP national officials registry. There is no fee to complete the certification exam.
