Course Description

This course introduces concepts related to mental health, obstetric, and pediatric nursing. Basic principles of mental health well-being and common mental health disorders is introduced. This course also introduces concepts related to contraception, conception, antenatal, labor and delivery and postpartum nursing care as well as common complications. The pediatrics portion includes concepts related to theories of growth and development, congenital disorders, and common pediatric health disorders. Special topics include therapeutic communication, cultural diversity and utilizing standardized evidence-based assessment tools with adults and children in clinical and lab/simulation settings. Clinical experiences occur in in-patient and a variety of out-patient/community settings.

  5. Implement safe and appropriate nursing care with adults and children within the LPN scope of practice.
  6. Describe common medications used with mental health, OB and pediatric clients.
