Course Description

Spanish 2102 is an Intermediate II Spanish Language course designed to strengthen language skills and develop a more complex cultural competency. SPAN 2102 is a continuation of SPAN 2101 and takes a more complex communicative approach to reading, writing, listening, and speaking Spanish. Short literary forms (poetry, drama, music, film from Spain and the Americas) and other authentic texts form the basis for language interpretation, development, and practice. CLEP exam or 4 years of High School Spanish my substitute for SPAN 2101 prerequisite.

Outline of Major Content Areas

1. Complex verb tenses: present, past, reflexive future. Irregular regular, verbs, forming questions, imperative, adjectives, adverbs, subjunctive mood, uses, present perfect indicative, subjunctive, adjective clauses and other grammar concepts. Complex sequence of tenses, perfect tenses indicative and subjunctive forms.

6. Integral relationship of language and culture in social behaviors:
7. Expressions of courtesy, greetings, introductions using a variety complex of verb tenses and vocabulary
8. Likes/dislikes, university system and vocabulary using a variety of complex verb tenses and vocabulary
9. Family, profession, numbers and time, shopping using a variety of complex verb tenses and vocabulary
10. Café, food, past times, holidays using a variety of complex verb tenses and vocabulary

Learning Outcomes (General)

The student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate speaking fluency in small group discussions and large group presentations using a variety of verb tenses and vocabulary.
2. Interpret written and spoken language using a variety of more complex verb tenses and vocabulary.
3. Explain feelings, emotions, information, concepts, and ideas, using a variety of more complex verb tenses and vocabulary.
4. Compare the Spanish language to their own using a variety of more complex verb tenses and vocabulary.
5. Write intermedium high range dialogues or paragraphs within the major content using correct grammar [present, past, reflexive future, irregular regular, verbs, forming questions, imperative, adjectives, adverbs, subjunctive mood, uses, present perfect indicative, subjunctive].
