Office 365 Migration–UPDATED

June 13th Update

All campus email will be unavailable from Friday, June 15th at 6 pm until Monday, June 18th at 8 am as part of the Minnesota State single tenant migration.

Note: Also starting on Monday June 18th logging in to Office 365 to get to campus email will be a different format as follows:

Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu

Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu

Logging into your desktop machines remains StarID and password

June 6th Update

RCTC will be begin migrating all Office 365 services to the Minnesota State single tenant on Friday, June 8th, 2018.

This migration requires us to freeze new activity within the Office 365 environment, and have interruptions of services. The following specific timelines have now been confirmed:

Friday, June 8th 5 pm to Monday, June 17th 8 am: This will be a freeze period for adding new content or editing existing content. During this period employees should not attempt to create, edit, or upload any new data within Office 365 as the changes may not be saved. You may be able to still access files and sites, but no changes to content can be guaranteed. Services affected include One Drive, Sharepoint, Office365 Office apps, OneNote, Forms, Teams, Microsoft Groups and Projects.

Friday, June 15th 6 pm to Monday, June 17th 8 am: Employees should not attempt to access campus email during this time as it may not be accessible and any usage (sending new messages, receiving messages, creating calendar events, etc.) may not be saved. Also, senders to our campus email accounts may receive undeliverable errors during the migration. Services affected include Email, People, Calendar, Tasks and Outlook apps

Previous Update

RCTC will be migrating all Office 365 services to the Minnesota State single tenant the week of June 11, 2018.

The goal of this project is to bring all Minnesota State colleges and universities into a single system with Office 365. Employees with multiple campus affiliations will have a single mailbox that will work at each participating institution. This project includes services such as email, One Drive, Sharepoint, Skype for Business and more.

Faculty/Staff Impact

Your email address doesn’t change. All of your email, folders and OneDrive content will be migrated into the new system. However, to log in to the system, now you will be using as your username starid@minnstate.edu (use your actual starid). All Office 365 services – including email – will be unavailable June 15-17, 2018. There will also be sporadic periods of time where access will be limited or unavailable during the week of June 11-15, 2018. During the migration period, individuals may receive an undeliverable error message when attempting to send email to your account.

Summer Semester Instructors: please note that there will be a time period during the week of migration when students will not be able to access their campus email.

All Employees: email forwarding rules, delegation access (calendars/mailboxes), Skype contacts, Outlook profiles (custom settings/email signatures/etc.) will not migrate and will need to be recreated. The TSC Team will be available to assist in setting these items back up if assistance is needed, by contacting them at tech.help@rctc.edu.

Student Impact

Student email address will be changing. The new format will be first.last@my.rctc.edu. Emails sent to current students using the old format will continue to be delivered. Students with multiple campus affiliations may have their default send from address set to a different Minnesota State campus (with an .edu domain). Note: if a student has their default “send address” set to a different Minnesota State Campus, their message will arrive in your inbox appearing that way versus @my.rctc.edu.

All email, folders and OneDrive content will be migrated into the new system. Students will log in using their username starid@go.minnstate.edu. All Office 365 services – including email – will be unavailable June 15-17, 2018. There will also be sporadic periods of time where access will be limited or unavailable during the week of June 11-15, 2018.
