Peace Officer Program Admission

There are some specific requirements for becoming a Peace Officer in the State of Minnesota. Please take the time to review the Minimum Standards and requirements for licensing. In addition, if you have convictions in adult court for specific crimes, these will disqualify you from being a peace officer in Minnesota. See Disqualifiers.

Students entering the Peace Officer Program need to possess good reading, writing, and math skills and possess the desire to enhance their problem-solving skills. Additionally, students should be able to handle the physical demands of law enforcement

The Peace Officer SKILLS program requires students to pass both a Psychological exam before enrollment in the SKILLS program and a physical Fitness Test (COOPER test) before they will be allowed to complete defensive tactics training.

See the details of the Cooper Fitness Test Standards (PDF).
