Writing – Faculty Information

Dear Faculty:

The Learning Center assists writers in all stages of the writing process by helping students improve as writers, not just improve the writing itself. A typical session lasts approximately 30 minutes, and sessions usually involve a discussion of paper development and organization before grammar or punctuation problems are addressed. Although writing centers are sometimes misidentified as proofreading services, writing specialists and peer coaches will not be spending time editing or “fixing” papers. The goal is to work one-on-one with an experienced writer to become a better writer overall.

If you would like a writing specialist to provide a 10 minute tour and an overview of the benefits of the writing center to your students, please contact one of the coordinators or writing specialists at the Learning Center.
