Summer is a time for fun in the sun and an escape from the hectic hustle and bustle of college life.

In campus there is still a buzz in the hive of RCTC. Student Life was busy preparing for representation in the local area parades. These festivals, such as the RochesterFest Grand Parade, Chatfield Western Days Parade and the Mazeppa Daze Parade, are just a few of the celebrations RCTC staff, faculty and students participated in.

I was able to work with the RCTC Student Life staff and watch all of the hard work and preparation that goes into every step of the parade. It’s a hectic process organizing everything from candy to T-shirts to drivers and coordinating with the volunteers. Their involvement is really a testament to the sense of community that RCTC has and their commitment to excellence.

These parades give many something to look forward to during the scorching summer times and is a tradition that demonstrates to neighboring communities what the Yellowjacket family is made of.

“What a whirlwind summer,” said Student Life Specialist Courtney Thoreson. “Parades are always a huge undertaking, and I want to extend my thanks to our incredible volunteers. Because of their dedication and commitment, our parade season was a great success.”

With fall being just around the corner, summer leaves us with fond, fun-filled memories. Remember, you are always welcome to participate in next summer’s parade lineup.
