Safety is foremost factor in decision to cancel classes

President Jeffery S. Boyd
Rochester Community and Technical College

Some students have expressed concerns with the number of campus closures this semester. I want to assure you that each time the decision is made to close/cancel classes, many factors are taken into consideration, first and foremost being your safety.
This winter has been very unusual (73 inches of snow as of Feb. 26), and this month alone has set a record for being the snowiest February in Rochester history, at 39.7 inches. This has resulted in our need to cancel classes more than anyone imagined would be necessary.
Making the decision to cancel classes is difficult because we understand such decision disrupts your learning, whether it be assignments, clinical time or having to make up lost time in some programs. I want to commend our faculty for everything they are doing to make adjustments and accommodations with your student success and completion in mind.† If you have a question specific regarding your class(s), I encourage you to visit with your instructor(s).
Because we live in Minnesota, we canít make a promise that weíre done with the snow or with cancellations, but I can assure you every decision we make is with your safety and learning in mind.
