What You Missed at What’s Up Wednesdays Vol. II – An Editor-in-Chief Cormican Report

Another week, another What’s Up Wednesday. If you couldn’t make it, here’s what you missed:

Homecoming is rapidly approaching. Lexi Fernandez, our Student Engagement Specialist, gave us a reminder of all the Homecoming week activities. They are posted on the Student Life website, in last week’s What’s Up Wednesday rundown, and on posters all around campus.

Next we heard about Student Success Day, which is happening next Wednesday, September 13. There are no classes that day, but plenty of opportunities to further your college success. Some professors are even offering extra credit if you attend a session or two! The day begins at 9 a.m., and the full schedule can be found on D2L.

Constitution Day trivia is taking place next Friday. You can test your knowledge for prizes at the Heintz Center at 8:30 and again in the Atrium at 10:30.

Upcoming athletic games was the next subject. The volleyball team has two home games on Friday, September 8, at the Rochester Regional Sports Center at 3 and 7. The football team has a home game on Saturday, September 9 at 1:30 at the Rochester Regional Stadium. And finally, the soccer team has a home game on Saturday after the football game at 6. Remember, your student ID gets you in free!

The student senate election is happening all day on Monday, September 11 on D2L. There were no candidates available for speaking, but Lexi shared a speech from Lexine Adade, a candidate who could not make it.

A guest speaker, Luke Turner, finished up this week’s What’s Up Wednesday. Mr. Turner is from Olmstead County and came to tell us about voter registration. People 16 and 17 can now pre-register to vote, felons can now vote after release, absentee voting is expanding, and early voting is in progress to begin in 2025. Mr. Turner also walked us through the registration process, as well as gave us information on how our voting process is safe and secure. To register to vote or to find more information, you can visit Vote.gov.

That’s all for this week, make sure to stop by the Hive for the next What’s Up Wednesday on September 20!
