Pride Club’s table at a recent RCTC club fair
Would you believe that around a year ago, RCTC’s now enthusiastic and vibrant PRIDE club was scarcely attended, almost in stasis?
However, just in the past year, the meetings have transitioned to rendezvous of boisterous laughter and chaotic fun. The club is back to form as a tight knit community.
This revival of the club comes with a purpose: the PRIDE club aims to become a community that makes RCTC a more positive, friendly, inclusive, and most importantly, safe space where any of the LGBTQ+ community’s members or allies can feel comfortable, feel heard.
Facing a toxic world that pelts down identity and individuality with discrimination, contempt, prejudice, and projected stereotypes, the PRIDE club becomes a zone of openness, a place where you can be respected no matter your race, identity, orientation, or religion. In times of discriminatory judgment and belittlement, the PRIDE club stands as a strong community to uplift and support others.
Stepping into a meeting is a transformative experience; when passing by, the quiet halls resound with witty, enthralling chatter tingling both curiosity and a desire to join in.
When looking for a switch up in life, catch a meeting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays in the Memorial Hall, M2405 at RCTC’s main campus.
The PRIDE club has a flexible schedule and all are encouraged to come and leave at their own convenience with the non-mandatory but open meetings. To learn more, stop by or contact the club executives, President Mackie Sauder (any/all), Vice President Ezra Carter (he/they), and Secretary Jace Rosenau (he/him). The club’s advisor is Lori Halverson-Wente.
The PRIDE club is an incredible place offering both an entertaining, social space, and a place of meaningful understanding and depth. You can expect a highly energetic environment that offers socialization and deep talks on discovery and experiences, or fun activities like Jackbox games, discussion sessions, and arts and crafts with a side of delicious snacks. With club values of respect, inclusion, and understanding, RCTC’s PRIDE club offers an inviting, safe space for all to feel welcomed.
Whether you’re part of the community or an ally, the PRIDE club extends their greetings to all.
