RCTC hosted the Presidentís Cup Chess Tournament on Feb. 2.
Math instructor Paul Kinion has been involved in chess clubs since 2006. Three years ago, chess was re-introduced to RCTC, and that was the beginning of the tournament.
Kinion, 63, who has been playing since he was 6, asserts that there are many benefits to playing chess.
ìIt increases stamina to be able to think of a complex problem for a longer period of time,î he said.
Kinion added that ìanother benefit is that it is inclusive, so that a little kid can play, and so can an older person in a wheelchair.î
Kinion encourages RCTC students to try chess and consider the 2020 tournament.
Meanwhile, he said the Rochester Chess Club is holding a monthlong rated tournament 6:30 p.m. Tuesday every week in March in the RCTC cafeteria.
