A significant investment of $250,000 from Google Corporation will help Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) strengthen skilled trades training, modernize learning environments, and better prepare students for in-demand careers. Announced by RCTC and the RCTC Foundation, the investment will support critical technology and infrastructure improvements on campus, including equipment for the new Skilled Trades and Readiness (STAR) Program, helping connect student learning with the evolving needs of employers across Southeast Minnesota. These improvements will provide students with access to modern tools, technologies, and hands-on learning environments that align with industry standards and the changing demands of today’s workforce.
RCTC and the RCTC Foundation thank Google for supporting skilled trades education and workforce readiness. This investment represents a significant opportunity to strengthen career-focused training, expand practical learning experiences, and prepare students for in-demand careers in a rapidly evolving economy.
Of the total investment, $150,000 will support the development and enhancement of RCTC’s Cyber Clinic and Teaching Lab, strengthening the learning environment and giving students the technology and infrastructure needed to engage in authentic cybersecurity experiences. Funding will support four additional areas including:
- Cyber infrastructure and secure networking
- Student and instructor computing resources
- Cyber Clinic and work-based learning space
- Instructional technology, audio-visual systems, and learning enablement resources
The remaining $100,000 will be dedicated to equipment acquisition and program preparation for the Google Skilled Trades and Readiness (STAR) Program. The STAR Program prepares new-to-industry talent for entry-level careers in construction and skilled trades, helping to support a robust workforce. This investment will help ensure students have access to modern tools, equipment, and learning experiences that align with current workforce needs and industry standards.
