How to Write a Novel Camp
Whether you’ve never written a lick of fiction or you already have a full manuscript ready to send to agents, this workshop is for anyone who wants to try their hand at writing the next great American novel. This camp is a total of six days over two weeks.
In this workshop, we will learn how to:
- Develop interesting, flawed characters and meaningful character arcs
- Shape plot and conflict to keep the story compelling and well-paced
- Organize into chapters using the three-act structure
- Incorporate storytelling devices such as the “clock” and the “gun” to keep the reader on the edge of their seat
- Craft realistic dialogue that creates conflict and builds tension
- Integrate theme in a way that is subtle but emotionally resonant
- Create vivid settings and develop worldbuilding skills to establish tone and atmosphere
- Give and receive constructive feedback from peers
Through hands-on exercises and feedback, you’ll walk away with the tools and confidence to start—or finish—your own novel.
