Job Responsibilities

IN PERSON – ON CAMPUS

The WOSC Lab Assistant plays a vital role in supporting students through financial aid and admissions processes. This position involves assisting students in the computer lab with tasks such as completing the FAFSA, navigating eServices, and understanding financial aid and billing information. Additional responsibilities include clerical support, helping with office mailings, and running errands. This position is ideal for someone who is approachable, computer-savvy, organized, and ready to assist others in a fast-paced environment. As a key representative of the WOSC team, the Lab Assistant must always maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform information desk duties, when needed, including assisting all stakeholders and visitors to join the beeline! (app/kiosk) to ensure timely service and reduce wait times.
  • Greet all students and guests in a friendly, welcoming manner.
  • Provide guidance to students and families using the computer lab, especially those with limited technical skills.
  • Assist students with tasks such as:
    • Completing or correcting the FAFSA
    • Accepting student loans
    • Reviewing award notifications
    • Accessing billing and financial aid information on eServices
    • Assist students with navigating to D2L to complete Thrive in the Hive online orientation
  • Refer students to appropriate staff members or campus resources when needed.
  • Always maintain student confidentiality.
  • Professionally answer phone calls and provide accurate information or referrals.
  • Perform clerical tasks including copying, mailing, and emailing as needed.

  • Prioritize a welcoming and helpful demeanor at all times.
  • Demonstrate initiative and awareness of lab activity and student needs.
  • Communicate any schedule changes to your supervisor or lead worker in advance.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized work environment, including:
    • Sanitizing computer stations at the end of each shift
    • Shredding confidential documents daily
    • Emptying trash in the lab area weekly
    • Vacuum when needed
  • Limit use of personal devices during work hours to work-related tasks only.
  • Refrain from inviting friends to visit during your shift.
  • Dress appropriately for a professional office setting.

Additional Notes

  • Complete student worker training when assigned.
  • Communicate any schedule changes to your lead worker in advance.
  • Submit your payroll forms to gain access to eTime through e-Services (Student Employment).
  • All hours must be recorded on eTime the day they are worked: https://www.rctc.edu/eservices/
  • Refer friends and peers with financial aid questions directly to a staff member.
  • Food is not permitted at work stations.
  • You are entitled to a 15-minute break for every four consecutive hours worked.
  • All meals and breaks must be taken away from workstations.

Performance Review

Students are eligible for a wage increase after they have worked 200 hours and based on performance evaluation. The area supervisor will assess the student employee’s performance, work attendance and attitude as it relates to the job tasks, RCTC values, service attributes, core outcomes, and interaction with students, staff, and visitors.
