Job Responsibilities

The Student Services Assistant plays an important role in supporting a fast-paced, student-centered office dedicated to student success and access. Student employees help create a welcoming environment by assisting students as they navigate campus resources, understand office procedures, and connect with the services they need.

  • Providing front-office support and customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Assisting students with locating campus offices, services, and resources.
  • Supervising exams and maintaining testing procedures.
  • Answering general questions about programs, services, and office processes.
  • Performing basic computer tasks using Microsoft Word, D2L, and other student information systems.
  • Assisting with filing, shredding, organizing materials, data entry, and other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Supporting daily office operations while maintaining a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Successful candidates will possess strong communication skills, fluency in English, and college-level reading and writing abilities.
  • Attention to detail, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to follow established procedures are essential.
  • Requires maintaining strict confidentiality of student records, testing materials, and other sensitive information.

  • Follow established procedures, policies, and instructions with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Possess college-level reading and writing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a student services environment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced office setting while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.

  • Communicate any schedule changes to your lead worker in advance.
  • Submit your payroll forms to gain access to eTime through e-Services (Student Employment).

  • You are entitled to a 15-minute break for every four consecutive hours worked.

Performance Review

Students are eligible for a wage increase after they have worked 200 hours and based on performance evaluation. The area supervisor will assess the student employee’s performance, work attendance and attitude as it relates to the job tasks, RCTC values, service attributes, core outcomes, and interaction with students, staff, and visitors.
