Jackie Halsey, Program Director and Instructor in Cancer Registry Management (CRM) has worked in the profession since 2008 and became a certified Oncology Data Specialist in 2010 then received a bachelor’s degree in 2019.

Jackie has worked in a small and large cancer registry which includes Mayo Clinic plus for a consultant company for other states hospitals and central registry work. She has also participated in a special American Cancer Society data project and involved in the Minnesota Cancer Registrars State Association. She still abstracts part time for a hospital to keep her skills current to the manual standards. She enjoys the profession greatly and teaching students this enriching career with positivity. “Always remember, Successful people are not gifted. They just work hard. Hard work is the formula for success.”

Chris Bushaw, Instructor in Health Information Management Careers (HIMC) at RCTC since 2006, has an M.Ed. in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota, as well as certifications as an Oncology Data Specialist and Registered Health Information Technician teaching for both these programs at RCTC.

Prior to teaching, Chris was a Manager in the Health Information Management Department at the Mayo Clinic. She also worked as a cancer registrar at the Mayo Clinic and currently works part-time as a cancer registrar for Minnesota’s central cancer registry, the Minnesota Cancer Reporting System for the Minnesota Department of Health.

Sara Holton, Instructor in Cancer Registry Management began teaching at RCTC in 2017.

Sara graduated from the Health Information Management Technology program at RCTC in 2004 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in HealthCare Management at Rasmussen College in 2004.

She earned the Oncology Data Specialist certificate in 2001 and has supervised a large Cancer Registry for 25 years. Over the years, she has also had the pleasure of mentoring numerous students to prepare them for their career in the Cancer Registry profession. “I enjoy the challenges and fast paced changes the cancer registry profession moves through. My goal is to help students succeed.”
