Music Program – Studio A

Studio A

Studio A is a state-of-the-art music production studio used by students taking both audio production and electronic music composition courses.  The studio houses a computer-based multi-track recording system and MIDI sequencing.  The studio is connected to five sound-cubes, over-dub room, and one large recording room equipped with a C5 Yamaha Disklavier Grand Piano for the recording of various instruments. The studio is setup to mix in both stereo and 5.1 surround-sound incorporating contemporary technology for the creation of original music compositions.

The studio is outfitted with a Tascam DM-4800 digital mixing console.  The console is equipped with twenty-four studio grade mic preamps.  Along with the mic preamps in the console, there is access to 8 outboard mic preamps allowing students to record up to 32 tracks at a time at 24bit/96kHz.  The remote layer on the console provides a 24-fader moving fader control surface that is linked with Logic Pro X (the studio DAW) for seamless mixing.

A Mac Pro 3.7GHz quad-core desktop computer with 16GB Ram and 500GB flash storage is the central recording focus equipped with Logic Pro X for MIDI/audio editing and creation.  The students learn to mix “in the box,” meaning they create all their final mixes within Logic Pro X.  Both hardware and software processors are incorporated featuring the WAVES Diamond series plus many more top-notch plugins used in the music industry as well as multiple outboard devices (see equipment list).
