Laboratory Science Program Careers

JOB MARKET/SALARY:

Clinical Laboratory Scientists start out making between 45,000-55,000/ year.

TYPES OF EMPLOYERS LOOKING TO HIRE: Students with a Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Science have the opportunity to work at the Mayo Clinic, Olmsted Medical Center, The Hormel Institute, Kemps, or Seneca Foods.

They will perform routine clinical tests on samples, perform quality control during testing and interpret and evaluate results.

There is currently a shortage of trained clinical laboratory scientists since most employers are now hiring people with a 4-year degree rather than a 2-year MLT (medical laboratory technician).

Once students complete a four-year degree in Clinical Laboratory Science they can work in a variety of clinical labs (immunology, microbiology, hematology, cytology, etc.) in both the medical and industry setting.
