Recommended course sequence – Certificate program law enforcement

This program is only available to individuals that already possess a two or four year degree in any field from another accredited college or university. You must get the Academic Program Leaders permission to enroll.

Course sequence recommendations.  Some courses are available in other semesters.

***FALL (August) ACADEMIC START***

1st Semester – Fall (11 – 20 credits)

  • POFC 1105, Introduction to Law Enforcement, 3 credits (If required)
  • POFC 1112, Introduction to Criminal Investigation, 4 credits (If required)
  • POFC 1115, Basic Firearms, 2 credits 
  • POFC 2110, Police Report Writing, 2 credits
  • POFC 2119, Minnesota Criminal Statutes & Traffic Law, 3 credits
  • POFC 2122, Criminal procedure, 3credits
  • EMC 1121, First Responders, 2 credits (If required)
  • PHED 1189, Boot Camp, 1 credit

2nd Semester – Spring (19 credits)

  • POFC 2121, Human Behavior and Ethics in Law Enforcement, 1 credits
  • POFC 2127, Juvenile Law & Procedures, 3 credits
  • POFC 2140, Patrol Operations, 2 credits
  • SOC 2625, Minority Group Relations, 3 credits (If required)
  • LAWS 2101, Crime Scene Processing, 2 credits
  • LAWS 2102, Traffic Enforcement, 2 credits
  • LAWS 2103, Defensive Tactics, 2credits
  • LAWS 2104, Firearms for SKILLS, 2credits
  • LAWS 2105, Patrol Practicals, 2 credits
