Career/Program Overview
RCTC’s Digital Arts program prepares students for opportunities as designers, artists, filmmakers, photographers, musicians and educators. The program focuses on artistic creation using electronic median. It consists of a common liberal arts core and offers three areas of additional technology bases study including: Computer Art and Design, Multimedia, and Music Technology. Curriculum-at-a-Glance
Depending on which program/degree option selected, coursework may include: Computer as a Creative Tool, Introduction to Digital Arts, Graphic Design I and II, Digital Projects I and II, Digital Portfolio Development, Computer Graphics I and II, Animation and 3D Modeling, Designing for the Internet, Interactive Web Design, Digital Video Composition I and II, Vector Graphics Animation Electronic Music Composition and Audio Production.

Program/Degree Options
RCTC’s Digital Arts program offers several different areas of emphasis and degree options. These options include: Computer Art and Design Associate in Science Degree, Computer Graphics Certificate, Graphic Design Certificate, Multimedia Technology Certificate, Multimedia Design and Development Associate in Science Degree, Music Technology Associate in Science Degree, and a Music Technology Certificate. The Computer Graphics Certificate is offered completely online.
Program Start Date(s)
Courses can be started any semester. Some courses may be offered only once a year. Check the RCTC catalog for course availability by semester.
Career Opportunities/Information
The nature of the Multimedia Developers job is all about variety. The same job title may have a different job description in a different company. The most common
job titles held by Multimedia Developers include: author/editor/content provider, animator, designer, graphic artist/illustrator, operator, multimedia developer, multimedia systems analyst and producer/publisher.
The Digital Artist makes art for a digital environment including CD ROMs, video games, and disks. Most of a Digital Artist’s
day is spent on developing a project, drawing pictures, or assembling artwork.
Careers in Music Technology fuse creative arts and technology arts. We have organized the career possibilities into five main groups including: studio, performer/composer, education, technology sales and design. Each of these areas requires commitment to being a fine musician and one who uses technology as one of the primary creation tools.
Articulations/Accreditations
Articulation agreements for the Associate in Science degree in Digital Arts: Music Technology have been established between RCTC and St. Mary’s University in Winona and Mankato State University. Graduates of RCTC’s program will be able to transfer the Digital Arts: Music Technology program as a completed two-year degree program.
Articulation agreements for both the Associate in Science degree in Digital Arts: Multimedia Design and Development and the Digital Arts: Computer Art and Design have been established between RCTC and Capella University (www.capella.edu) and Bemidji State University. Graduates of RCTC’s program will be able to transfer the Multimedia Design and Development and the Computer Art and Design programs as completed two-year degrees.
